AviaLog is a pilot logbook built around a simple principle: a record this personal shouldn't leave your hands. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app does and doesn't do with your information.
01 Who this covers
This policy applies to the AviaLog iOS app ("AviaLog", "the app", "we"). It does not cover any third-party website or service you might reach through a link, or data you choose to share outside the app.
02 What we collect
We don't collect any personal data. AviaLog has no servers of its own, no account system, and no analytics. The information you enter — your name, flights, aircraft, ratings, certificates, medical dates, endorsements and any photos or documents you attach — is created and stored entirely on your device.
We never see it, receive it, or transmit it. Apple's App Store privacy label for AviaLog is "Data Not Collected."
03 Where your data is stored
Your logbook is saved locally using Apple's on-device database (SwiftData). It stays in the app's private storage on your iPhone. Photos and PDFs you attach to a flight or credential are saved the same way — on the device, alongside your logbook.
Because the data is local, your device's own protections apply: your passcode, Face ID / Touch ID, and the encryption iOS provides for app data at rest.
04 Notifications
AviaLog asks for notification permission the first time you save a credential that expires. If you allow it, the app schedules local notifications for upcoming certificate, medical and currency expirations. These are generated and delivered entirely on your device by iOS. No reminder content is sent to us or to any server. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings.
05 Import, export & backup
AviaLog can import a CSV logbook from other apps, export your data as CSV or a PDF report, and create a full backup file you can restore later. These actions happen only when you start them, and the files are handed to iOS's standard share sheet so you decide where they go — AirDrop, Files, email, or another app of your choosing. AviaLog doesn't upload these files anywhere on its own.
06 Device permissions
AviaLog asks for access only when a feature needs it, and only to do the thing you asked for:
- Notifications — to deliver the expiration reminders described above.
- Photos and files — when you attach an image or PDF to a credential, you pick it in the standard iOS picker. AviaLog receives only the item you choose, never the rest of your library, and stores it in your logbook on the device. Nothing is uploaded.
You can review or revoke any of these in iOS Settings at any time.
The flight map is drawn by Apple Maps. When you open it, your device asks Apple for the map imagery of the area shown, under Apple's own privacy policy. AviaLog does not send your flights, airports or any other logbook data to Apple or anyone else, and it never uses your location.
07 Features that are on the way
Two features are planned for future versions. They are not active in v1.0, and when they do arrive they will only ever run if you choose to use them:
- iCloud sync — an optional way to keep your logbook in step across your own Apple devices. If enabled, your data would be stored in your private iCloud account under Apple's terms, not on any AviaLog server. It remains off until a future release.
- Scan a flight — an optional tool to read flight details from a photo. If you ever use it, that single image would be sent for processing only at the moment you tap scan, used only to return the extracted details, and not stored by us. This policy will be updated with the specifics before the feature ships.
08 Children's privacy
AviaLog is a professional tool intended for pilots and is not directed at children. Because the app collects no data at all, it collects none from anyone, regardless of age.
09 Your control over your data
Your data is yours to keep, move, or erase:
- Export a full copy anytime from the app as CSV, PDF or a backup file.
- Delete individual records — flights, aircraft or credentials — inside the app.
- Remove everything by deleting AviaLog from your device, which erases its local storage.
Since we never hold your data, there's nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no request you need to send us to make that happen.
10 Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information — for example, when iCloud sync or Scan a flight ships — we'll update this page and revise the effective date above before the change reaches you. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
